FILA Japan put some serious spin on its blast-from-the-past popups, highlighting pieces worn by tennis legends from the 1970s. The three popups, called “Ground Project Tokyo-Harajuku,” opened simultaneously in October. The shops launched at Harajuku, which marks the center of Japan’s street culture. Each location highlighted specific retro-inspired collections such as the FILA Black Line and FILA Heritage Collection, while celebrating the brand through a creative atmosphere.
Shops at the IKA-YA and 4MG popup locations featured products from the FILA Museum in Biella, Italy. Among the iconic pieces on display were polo shirts and track jackets, as worn by FILA tennis legends of the 1970’s like Bjorn Borg. Ten pairs of the FILA Original Tennis shoes, an iconic footwear style that further speaks to the history of the brand, were also on display.
