A World Series win by the Chicago Cubs not only put the city in a joyous mood, it sparked a buying frenzy. To meet intense demand for team gear and memorabilia, 555 International burst onto the scene with two attractive — and quick — solutions. One, a batting cage-inspired kiosk, was designed and installed in three days. The second, a full Cubs store, had a seven-day lead time.
The 10-ft.-by-15-ft. kiosk in the Woodfield Mall created a complete retail environment. Rather than walking up to look at product, a doorway invites visitors to step inside, much like a brick-and-mortar store. The two-month run was so successful, plans are underway to reinstall the kiosk at Wrigley Field, states a 555 International spokesperson.
For the full Cubs team store, 555 took over a 15,000-sq.-ft. space on Michigan Avenue, also known as the Magnificent Mile. The former Garmin showroom needed to be built from the ground up in terms of retail fixturing. To save time, pieces were repurposed from inventory, according to the firm.
Silver and white fixtures highlight the sleek space and make the product pop. Team graphics and decals add an enthusiastic vibe. Other features include letters placed onto end caps, creating an entire row that spells out Go Cubs Go. A large W on the elevator moves as the doors open and close. Warm wood paneling is enhanced with a hat wall of 600 caps.
