Mobile payments are gaining popularity with today’s college students. According to Barnes & Noble College, 44% say they are interested in using mobile pay more frequently in the future. Another 62% say retailers who accept mobile payments are forward thinking.
Through a Barnes & Noble College Insights platform with access to over 15,000 students, parents, and faculty, more statistics on Gen Z reveal:
- Brick-and-mortar spaces are still vitally important to students, with 80% of students preferring to shop for their books in a physical store.
- Students are driven towards personalized experiences, shown through the success of localized on-campus events.
- A significant number — 68% — have retail apps downloaded to their phones.
- Students are slow to adopt mobile payment — just 9% say they’ve used apps like Apple Pay before — but are accepting of it.
