Billed as the “store that comes to you.” the futuristic-looking Moby Mart is a mobile unit being beta tested on the streets of Shanghai. These stores travel with no staff and can remain open 24/7.
The environmentally-friendly markets run on electricity and are equipped with solar panels. Customers must be members. Entry into the vehicle and all purchases are done through an app. Customers can select and scan items for immediate purchase or place orders in advance for pick up. As they leave the store, sensors will automatically track their exit and finalize orders. Purchases are charged to cards. Receipts are sent to email addresses. Other features include:
- Virtual assistant who welcomes customers by name, remembers shopping habits, and make suggestions.
- Drones deployed on roof for deliveries.
- Outside vending modules can include an ATM, mini-pharmacy, and coffee machine. A giant TV screen, also on the outside, can be used for ad space.
In addition, automatic restocking will allow mobile units to head back to the warehouse or dock with other Moby Marts for refills. To see more, check out the video below.
