A bright and inviting ambiance welcomes customers to the new Fort Worth, Texas location of Neiman Marcus. At nearly 95,000 sq. ft., the interior design by CallisonRTKL is a delicate blending of multi-layered elegance.
“It was important that the materials we selected reflect classic Neiman Marcus elegance yet respond to what is classically Fort Worth,” says CallisonRTKL Associate Jayme Schutt.
To mirror the modern spirit that’s innate to Fort Worth, culturally significant items evoking the city’s history were reinterpreted into the approachable space. Textures such as rope, leather, and rebar are used in new and unusual ways that invite closer inspection. A hallmark of all Neiman Marcus stores, the use of light and air allows the customer to feel comfortable.
The unexpected, heavily textured and burned wood grains paired with bright white backdrops also add a rich layer to the overall design, Schutt adds.
The store opened to the public on Feb. 10, at The Shops at Clearfork. Its prior location, at the Ridgmar Mall, closed Jan. 28. The new store includes numerous exclusive vendors, new services, an NM Cafe, and private spa rooms. There’s also an open-sell concept in cosmetics.
“The newly reimagined cosmetic area allows the customer to play, explore and discover,” says CallisonRTKL VP and lead designer, Kyle Jeffrey.
Other enhancements, according to the firm, are a silver wood grain finish donning the designer jewelry banks, while an innovative perimeter created with metal chain provides a transparent curtain as a background to the merchandise in the ladies shoe salon. This dynamic oval, inspired by the Fort Worth Water Gardens, appears to be pouring from the ceiling.
At The Presentation Room, the dramatic wall covering serves as a backdrop in this cozy, private space where customers can try options from the Precious Jewels Salon.
“On the second level, CUSP/Contemporary is differentiated not only by the bold use of materials but by a slight rotation of angles for all flooring, ceiling and wall partitions. This area is highlighted by The Girlfriend Room, an intimate area designed for friends to discuss clothing options and use Neiman Marcus’ iconic Memory Mirror,” according to CallisonRTKL.
More enhancements include leather and suede wrapped panels creating an open floor-to-ceiling divider, identifying Men’s Shoes amidst The Man’s Store. The banks and bunkers in both Men’s Shoes and the Ladies Shoe Salon depart from the slick and smooth and instead offer a raw, burned wood texture complete with modern and bold cowhide inspired bolsters. Rebar shelves and powder-coated metal work, resembling the continuous lines found in metal branding irons, are found throughout The Man’s Store, according to CallisonRTKL.
“The new men’s shoe boutique located in the center of the Men’s floor becomes a destination that anchors the entire department while activating the shopping experience,” Jeffery says.
