A passion for the outdoors, camping, and Canada by the founders of Roots drives this new store concept. Designed by CallisonRTKL, the 5,100-sq.-ft. space, at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, alludes to an open, modern cabin that showcases the brand’s culture and history and invites everyone to become a part of its future.
“From the very beginning of our partnership with Roots, it was clear how passionate they are about their people and the stories they bring to the table,” says Cindi Kato, VP, director of business development at CallisonRTKL. “Every person we met at Roots had this incredible passion for the brand. So, it was important to the design team that the new store experience reflect that collective history.”
A collection of experiences within the store empower customers to celebrate the brand. These distinct areas include a leather customization workshop that highlights the handcrafting process for each bag, awards jacket and pair of shoes. Customers can also become part of the Roots story by customizing their own products.
The store also features DJ areas and space for live performances. An enhanced fitting room lounge provides a place to relax while taking in images and artifacts from the brand’s storied past.
“This Roots concept store helped solidify a retail partnership in the most positive way,” Kato says. “While working with CallisonRTKL designers, Roots meticulously showcased everything that makes their brand enduring and vital. The space is a true reflection of Roots’ commitment to the best representations of Canadian heritage, natural beauty, craftsmanship, and integrity.”
