Boutique reimagines traditional department store footprint
Created as a boutique, The Vault in Saks Fifth Avenue’s new Greenwich, Conn. location offers high-end jewelry for multiple brands within shop-in-shop environments, as well as a traditional sales floor.
A collaboration between FRCH Design Worldwide and Hudson Bay Company’s global store design team, The Vault is one of three freestanding specialty stores that reimagines the conventional department store footprint within a collection of boutique formats. Opened in May 2017, The Vault’s 6,000-sq.-ft. space highlights the balance between warm and cool tones. Champagne metals and rich wood are paired with crisp white monochromatic architectural elements and neutral carpet tones. Crystal chandeliers, antique mirrors with modern accents, and handmade wall coverings with dull-brushed champagne metal add to the luxurious environment.
The wood floor perimeter guides shoppers through the store, past mirrored surfaces to create a natural illusion with sparkle and reflectivity. Textural wall panels create a focal moment between the specialty boutiques. Two private viewing rooms also serve the main sales floor.
