KNITTING A SERIES OF SMALLER DEPARTMENTS AND BOUTIQUES INTO A SINGLE, LARGE HOLISTIC SHOPPING EXPERIENCE provides a more imitate feel for this store’s vast and varied group of consumers. With a strong focus on approachability and accessibility, the style-savvy, detailed design is clever without being trendy or trite. The modern shopping environment mixes design cues, palettes, details, art, and displays to imbue an eclectic, warm, and residentially-inspired setting.
Large pads of flooring materials in conjunction with ceiling planes, as well as extensive ceiling troughs, define the space and map out its directional flow. Different design aesthetics, millwork, metalwork details, furnishings, finishes, and fitting room approaches cater to six core customers — young women, trend-centric women, more conservative women, and their three male counterparts. A feature staircase anchoring a key display window at the main pedestrian entrance offers a strong visual cue to the second-floor men’s department.
Other features include reducing maintenance costs by switching from metal halide to LED lighting. Comfortable seating also provides a reprieve from the stimulating store environment. Art adds inspiration, with varied shapes and mediums that include sculptures, metal installations, knitwear animals, murals, wall coverings, and framed pieces. Many of the works are by Canadian artists.
