SHOWCASING SYRIAN CUISINE AND CRAFTSMANSHIP TRANSFORMS THIS STRIP MALL’S SMALL FOOTPRINT INTO A VIBRANT, MEMORABLE DINING EXPERIENCE. Much of the inspiration derives from the full-service, sit down restaurant’s name, which translates to “the old pomegranate.” The fruit owns the space with custom designed pomegranate artwork patterns printed onto fabric as textile art and a color scheme dominated by rich pomegranate reds, pinks, and purples. The vivid hues provide a warm, friendly, and welcoming palate.
Other authentic details also add to the glamorous ambiance and highlight the Damascene menu. Infusing Middle Eastern elegance into a North American setting, the environment is enough to satisfy first generation Syrians and those looking for an authentic Syrian experience, while not being intimidating to non-Syrian guests. Elements include:
- Bilingual wayfinding signage
- Syrian and Egyptian tile
- Five different archway styles, each familiar to Syrian culture
- Hanging pendant lighting from Egypt and Turkey
- Syrian-imported, custom-made seating bench and hostess chair featuring rich fabric and marble inlay
A Damascus star shape water feature — an iconic element in this region — also becomes a focal point and provides soothing white noise. The star shape is repeated in a contemporary execution on the custom tabletops. The linear striping of stone on the walls — a common detail to Middle Eastern courtyards — acts as a neutralizing component in the design.
Other features include creating theater and fresh baking cues with a window to the baking oven and shawarma kitchen. Large U-shaped booths provide semi-private dining.
