Oakland-based metal expert Móz Designs is excited to introduce the first in a series of elemental color offerings: Blackened Steel Patina.
This new patina colorway showcases the forces of nature digitally rendered on solid-core aluminum sheet metal. Typically applied in industrial settings, designers can now use the look of weathered steel for interior projects, like corporate offices, hospitality environments, or retail settings. The color can be paired with Móz perforated, corrugated, or laser-cut metal sheets for the ultimate in industrial elegance.
Blackened Steel Patina is the newest color in Móz’s award-winning Blendz Patina collection, which draws inspiration from the elements. The Elemental Palette is now part of that collection, with Blackened Steel Patina as its first addition. Variegated tones of copper, steel, bronze, and brass add elemental textures to walls, columns, ceilings, and facades.
Móz chose this color in honor of classic weathered steel, developed in the U.S. in the 1930s as a low-maintenance material that resists corrosion and abrasion. When raw steel is exposed to the elements, the material oxidizes and forms an adherent rust patina that inhibits further degrading, making it highly durable and giving the metal its signature weathered touch. Since its inception, the use of weathered steel has spread worldwide. Typically, it’s used for exterior or industrial projects, like facades or bridges.
Blackened Steel Patina now offers the look of weathered steel achieved through advanced digital printing technology. High-res textures are captured digitally then printed in-house on solid-core aluminum sheet metal. Blackened Steel Patina offers the durability and longevity of weathered steel in a lightweight, fully sealed, and easy-to-install .040-in. aluminum metal solution that comes in standard sheet sizes of 4 ft. by 8 ft. and 4 ft. by 10 ft.
Traditional weathered steel can take up to 40 years to develop a blackened patina. The material can be heavy and expensive, with a raw and exposed surface. Blackened Steel Patina offers instant gratification for interior projects, creating a weathered steel surface with the value, durability, and color integrity that withstands the test of time.
