In our industry, everyone is busy.
While we receive great feedback about the insights and information Shop! provides, we also frequently hear that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to enjoy it all.
In reaction to that, we are always trying to determine the best methods to deliver new content to help drive our industry forward. Our most recent attempt stems from the Shop! Creative Council and its effort to share insights about retail trends influencing our industry.
During a conference call in late 2017, Shop! Creative Council members discussed ways to use their expertise as industry designers to offer more cutting-edge trend content. The discussion was so inspirational and intriguing, the group decided to expand upon and share their ideas in a podcast.
Thus, Shop!’s Retail Roundtable podcast series was born.
Why a podcast? First, consider the challenge of our busy schedules. Podcasts are extremely popular with professionals on the move.
When we look at statistics, we find an even stronger case for podcasts. In the past 10 years, the share of the U.S. population that has listened to an audio podcast in the previous month has almost tripled, according to Statista. Digging even deeper, we see that 44% of the U.S. population has listened to a podcast, and of those listeners, 80% listen to most of the podcasts to which they subscribe, according to a report on podcastinsights.com.
The Creative Council met during GlobalShop in Chicago to kick off our podcast recordings. Participants showed up from around the world to be a part of this introductory series on retail trends. We recorded two discussions among a total of 11 participants. Moderated by Jo Rossman, Retail Environments publisher/editor, each discussion featured a retail guest speaker. Retail consultant Chuck Luckenbill chatted with the council on emotions in the in-store experience, while Heidi Demers of The Kroger Co. joined the council’s discussion on personalization in retail.
The results were tremendous, and we can’t wait for you to hear what this clever and lively group has to reveal.
We are putting the finishing touches on our inaugural podcast series now; the first is expected to be available in June. Keep an eye out for it, and let us know what you think.
