Whoever said luxury, technology, and charity can’t co-exist peacefully hasn’t stepped foot into this popup retail space. The store stocks and sells what one would expect from a women’s retailer: clothing, fine jewelry, shoes, handbags, beauty products, wellness products, fragrances, and home accessories. What makes it unique is that 20% of all proceeds benefit children’s charities—and interactive technology features let customers know the impact they are making with their wallets. The store and visual displays provide a welcoming, warm, and open shopping environment. The focal point of the space is a 10-ft.-by-10-ft. wooden “birdcage” created using reinforced 1-in.by-1-in. solid oak without the aid of structural drawings. The hand-built display structure serves as a beauty hub housing organic skin and hair products and jewelry. Located in the heart of the space and visible from the street, the architectural design element also draws customers inside the store, where a modular perimeter wall and showcase system provides flexibility in the floorplan.
The centerpiece of the customer journey is the technology used to connect customers to the philanthropic causes their purchases support. An interactive table displays a selection of items from the retailer’s inventory. When a customer picks up an item, a message is projected onto the table that displays a video, product details, and information about the impact the purchase will have on charity (each item raises money toward children’s education measured in days). Once a customer purchases an item, their name and the contribution their purchase makes toward education is displayed on a wall at the front of the store with a personalized thank-you message. This “Insta-moment” is strategically placed in the store window for maximum exposure and communication with passersby.
The popup store blends seamlessly the online retail experience with a new physical experience, using surprising and non-invasive technology to support the brand’s storytelling element.
