While many retailers choose a safe, conventional approach to holiday décor, cell phone service provider Fido continually pushes the envelope, creating impactful, eye-catching, and engaging in-store merchandising props that jibe with its brand essence. This cityscape-inspired POP is no different: The props are slightly unexpected, a little offbeat, yet cool, catchy, and totally Fido.
Overt holiday elements are eschewed in favor of a more subtle approach. Blinking LED button lights integrated with the display components provide special “holiday twinkle” that can be felt by customers. These LED lights also contribute greatly to the attention-grabbing quality of the displays, especially during the darker, daylight-deprived months synonymous with the build up to the holiday season.
This execution had to be adaptable in size to fit different available retailer footprints, varying radically from location to location depending on store format. It was important that the execution in smaller stores still looked as premium and well-thought-out as the larger store executions to ensure consistency across all doors.
The cityscape concept allows for common elements that can be used in different arrangements, ensuring that the smaller format stores are still getting the same caliber pieces as larger stores. This approach also enables purchasing a higher quantity of common components, giving the client more bang for their buck.
As this was a temporary seasonal execution, elements are constructed from printed foamcore, providing the rigidity to create freestanding buildings without the expense of a base and incorporation of shapes from Fido’s iconography. Functionally, the display components were cleverly developed in a way that allowed them to be easily flat packed, shipped, assembled, and installed in store.
