Nordstrom debuts NYC men’s store
NORDSTROM MEN’S STORE | New York City
size 47,000 sf
completion April 2018
Nordstrom’s first full-line NYC location and first standalone men’s store features the company’s newest store design concepts, including an all-glass facade for daylight harvesting, unboxed display windows, and connections between the shopping experience and the city. An open, flexible floor plan for the three-level store allows for product display changes based on customer response. The layout facilitates navigation easily and discovery of new brands. In keeping with longstanding Nordstrom tradition, the store features an extensive artwork collection—39 works, a quarter of them from local artists. Suspended in the center of a three-story staircase, a floating, diaphanous tree sculpture by Seattle-based artist John Grade is a nod to the retailer’s Seattle roots.
A Comme des Garçons (CDG) shop features one of the largest local selections of the fashion house’s coveted brands, curated by Olivia Kim, Nordstrom VP of creative projects. Kim commissioned artist Marc Hundley to design a space that invokes both the ethos of CDG and the streets of New York. In a Nordstrom first, the men’s flagship features designer shops by Calvin Klein, Balenciaga, Valentino, and Dior. The spaces are united by a chainmail motif, but distinguished by brand-specific fixtures. The shoe department houses a Christian Louboutin shop displaying a wide range of the shoemaker’s sporty and formal offerings. The Nike Men’s Project, a sportswear and shoe destination for style and fitness-obsessed customers, offers the brand’s latest sneakers and apparel collections.
At Levi’s Tailor Shop, customers can shop Levi’s Authorized Vintage, one of the largest vintage denim collections in existence, and can design custom embroidery for any item, heat press a shirt, or get an express hem while they wait. More customization and personalization experiences in the store include:
- Shinola – watch customization and tech products
- Samuelson Custom Suit Visualizer – interactive digital made-to-measure suiting experience
- Eton Endless Aisle – digital touchscreen offering dress shirts and ties
- Le Labo – personalized fragrance labels in the grooming department
At each store entrance, shoppers will find Express Returns kiosks, Style Boards, 24/7 buy online and pick up in store, reserve online and try in store, and three-hour same-day delivery anywhere in Manhattan. Shoppers will have access to 24/7 Express Services for fashion emergencies like lost luggage or items that went unpacked in addition to a cellphone charging station, expert shoeshine services, an onsite alternations department, and complimentary personal stylists.
The grooming department introduces to the U.S., barber-created Murdock London, who will be sending barbers to New York for special appearances. The Coffee Shop features unique handcrafted drinks with coffee by a local small-batch roaster as well as draft beer on tap and local pastries. The store also includes a Clubhouse Bar with views of Central Park and Columbus Circle.
