It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Shop! staff member Beth Feinstein-Bartl. Having recently discovered she had lung cancer, Feinstein-Bartl died May 11 in a New Jersey hospital with her mother and brother at her side.
She had joined the association in 2014 and served most recently as a staff writer for Shop! publications including Retail Environments magazine. Her employment at Shop! followed nearly a decade of freelancing for the association. Her work was informed not only by her years of professional journalism experience, but also by her own retail employment experience and the expertise of her late husband, who had been a finish carpenter for retail stores.
Her contributions to Shop! content have been invaluable, garnering accolades from members and readers as well as the journalism community. Her story chronicling what happens to existing fixtures and store interior materials during a remodel won a Tabbie Award in 2018.
Highly respected in the South Florida journalism community, Feinstein-Bartl has served as board member and VP of programming for the Society of Professional Journalists Florida Professional Chapter. A supporter of the local arts community, she had also served as media liaison for the Music Club of Hollywood, Fla.
Known among association staff for her constant willingness to help her teammates and her sharp wit, she had a strong work ethic and was laser focused on serving members. Humble and kind-hearted, she will be greatly missed.
Donations may be made in Beth’s name to Ulster County SPCA at 20 Wiedy Road, Kingston, NY 12401.
