Exhaustive design elevates auto parts store into racing showroom
Located in an industrial park at the intersection of two Texas highways, this auto parts store makes a big statement by combining a retail space, warehouse, and call center into one facility designed to feel like a showroom for car enthusiasts.
The grand marquee entry features a large, backlit billboard and is topped with an illuminated logo sign that rises above the three-story building. Ample metal and glass materials for the exterior are an appropriate choice for a performance auto parts retailer. The tower is flanked by two piston-like, curved glass display windows with elevated turntables for custom car displays. The displays regularly highlight award-winning vehicles that belong to Summit Racing’s customers.
Upon entry into the store, shoppers are greeted by knowledgeable staff in sales pods distributed across they store by department. This allows for quick customer service and purchases. Custom fabricated, piston-head light pendants are located above all sales pod locations and are easily identifiable from a distance. Based on the large quantities of auto parts available, the parts are fixed on flexible, custom-designed display units while stock is kept in the adjacent distribution center and is sent to the store upon purchase. The display fixtures are painted charcoal for improved signage readability and include perforated panels for ease of product presentation.
Summit Racing dragsters and Funny Car bodies are suspended from the ceiling for customer viewing and provide visual markers to the main sales pod and cashier areas. Black-dyed polished concrete provides the desired “garage-feel” for the retail experience, while the exposed blue-painted ceiling and natural light from the expansive glazing reinforce the open-air feel. The 4000K LED lighting layout provides adequate brightness to the metallic parts in the sun and shade.
The perimeter walls are broken up with display piers and illuminated sign boxes that relate to corresponding departments. Large-format automotive-themed murals with a Texas vibe strategically placed over the tire wall and service/cashier area provide interesting views through the large floorplate. Strong visuals toward the rear of the store and hanging features away from the glazing add further interest throughout the expansive space.
