Sometimes, a sequel can be even better than the original. Following a successful partnership working with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment on promotional displays for Jurassic World in 2015, Midnight Oil was tasked to create another in-store setup for Universal for the DVD and Blu-ray release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
The pressure was on to not only execute previous goals of driving sales and engaging customers, but to exceed them by adding an AR component and making the setup even bigger. The end result proved a smashing success.
To scale beyond this universe, Midnight Oil centered its design on the dinosaur most associated with the brand: the Tyrannosaurus rex. The “WOW Display” brings the T-Rex to life in the form of a massive 12 x 11 display that greeted Walmart shoppers at over 1,200 locations across the U.S. and Canada.
And sure enough, the results were just as colossal as Jurassic Park‘s iconic dinosaurs.
On average, Walmart locations featuring the display experienced a 28% increase in sales. The AR component complementing the setup added over 1.5 million additional impressions, leaving Walmart nothing short of impressed.
“Walmart said this was by far the best in-store experience to date from a studio,” says Universal Studios SVP Mark Lewis. “Finding innovative ways to allow the in-store shoppers to engage with our corrugates not only helps sales, but it also allows us to keep these structures in-store a bit longer.”
