Madix, Inc. celebrates the life and legacy of Mr. Alan H. Sharaway, one of the company’s three original owners responsible for establishing its reputation as an innovative leader in the store-fixture industry. Sharaway passed away peacefully on January 3, 2021 at 96 years of age.
Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Sharaway immigrated to the United States as a college student. He attended both the University of Alabama and Northrup Aeronautical Institute in California, where he studied aeronautical engineering. His keen interest in technical design and his entrepreneurial mindset influenced his partnerships with W.S. Dowdle and T.A. Satterfield that ultimately formed Madix, Inc.
Sharaway was known for his dedication and admirable work ethic. Though he had long since relinquished some of his official duties as an owner and executive, he continued to keep a close eye on the company and could often be found in his office at Madix headquarters. He is described as an incredible businessperson with a heart for his employees, customers, and associates—a truly brilliant man with an uncanny sense of humor, who could carry on an educated conversation about any topic.
In a clear reflection of Sharaway’s personal tenets and merits, Madix continues to be a company that puts its people first. The organization’s current leaders and employees are committed to upholding the legacy of its forefather—a legacy of innovation, growth, and success.
